How to write good SEO friendly content for a website

Search engine optimization, commonly referred to as SEO, is the practice of writing web content while taking into consideration different ways to ensure that your articles or blog posts show up regularly in search engine results. By making sure that your content is highly visible to potential readers, you will increase your traffic or profits.

SEO entails effective use of keywords. You can make a list of relevant key words and phrases that someone would be likely to include in a search string before you begin writing. As a general rule of thumb, your keywords should be repeated often enough in the body of text to comprise two to five percent of the total article, or be used every 100 words. Effective keyword use will be almost unnoticeable to the reader, flowing naturally and not seeming forced.

Include your keywords in other important places on your website. Using keywords in photo tags and in your titles and menus allows them to be actively seen by the search engine as it scans these things in search of a match. Also, by having several sections in an article or breaking your blog post up under subheadings does more than just provide you with additional places to interlace your keywords. People consistently spend more time reading things that are broken up into small, easily managed sections than they do poring over long, unbroken blocks of text. Subheadings can actually keep people on your webpage for longer periods of time.

Be careful not to overdo it when inserting keywords into your articles or blog posts though. Overusing them can lead to your website losing credibility and traffic due to a flag being raised that marks you as spam. Try to use specific phrases and words. Narrow down broad ones to make more efficient use of the space you can allot to them.

Another aspect of SEO writing is good use of links. Including many links to popular, relevant websites will allow you to indirectly feed off of their success and boost your status in search engine results. Just be sure you walk the line well and don’t go link-crazy as it makes the text more difficult to read. It can be very obvious to readers that you have attempted to manipulate the text into too many links.

Haven’t posted a new blog in weeks? It may be time to sit down and battle back your writer’s block. Search engines give priority in their results to the most popular and current websites. Since older material typically moves down the list with each passing day or even hour, it is vital that you update frequently. People gravitate toward new, relevant information that they know is up-to-date, so the more often you post, the more people will continue to view your website.

Many people infuse their metadata, which is the underlying html code, with keywords as well. Search engines go over this data when crawling to find matches for a query and can move you up the list.

Refrain from posting the same content multiple times as it will not increase your ratings, but rather make you appear to be more spam littering the web.
